AutoMate vs. Fuelio vs. Drivvo: An Honest Comparison
Updated
Fuelio and Drivvo are the two biggest car expense trackers on Android. Both list 5M+ installs on Google Play, both have been around for years, and both changed in 2026. This is where things stand on 24 October 2026, from each app’s Play listing and its reviews. It is not a takedown: each of them does things AutoMate doesn’t.
Fuelio
Fuelio holds a Google Play Editors’ Choice badge and a 4.22-star rating from about 136,000 ratings. Its listing now says “NOW PRO FEATURES ARE FREE (no ads!)”: automatic Dropbox and Google Drive backup, a fill-up widget, the costs module and reports are free. In-app purchases from $4.99 to $15.99 are still listed, and some 2026 reviews describe a subscription.
What reviewers like: fast logging, cost visibility, import and export, and electric vehicle support. What they complain about: crowd-sourced fuel prices that are missing or wrong, edits that revert, and no way to log an odometer reading without a fill-up.
If Fuelio works for you, there is no urgent reason to leave. Its free cloud backup is something AutoMate does not have.
Drivvo
Drivvo has a 4.35-star rating from about 116,000 ratings. It is deep: reports, reminders, an income module, a trip tracker added in 2026, and “Where to Refuel”, with community fuel prices at more than 600,000 stations. Reviewers praise a developer who answers quickly.
The friction is price. The free tier allows two vehicles and shows ads. Spreadsheet export, receipt attachments and the dark theme are paid. Reviewers report the premium renewal going from about $6 a year to $24.90 in February 2026 and $49.90 in April 2026. The price hike is the most common theme in its low-star reviews.
Where AutoMate is different
AutoMate is newer and smaller than both. It is built around a few things the category kept getting wrong:
- No ads and no subscription. Every feature is free today. A one-time unlock for some power features is planned; it will never be a subscription.
- No account. Your records are stored on your phone. There is no AutoMate server holding them, so there is no login to fail and no sync to break.
- Insights that name the change. A drop in fuel economy, a fill-up well above your usual, a cheaper station you already use, a service that is due by your own history.
- Odometer updates on their own, so distance-based reminders stay accurate between fill-ups.
What AutoMate doesn’t do
Be clear about the trade-offs before you switch:
- No automatic or cloud backup. You make a backup file and keep it where you like.
- No receipt scanning, no widget, no trip log, no fuel price map.
- No iPhone app. AutoMate is Android only.
- It sends anonymous crash reports and anonymous usage statistics (you can turn the statistics off), so it cannot claim that nothing ever leaves your phone. Your records don’t.
Switching over
AutoMate imports both apps’ CSV exports. Open Settings, Import Data, pick the file, choose the vehicle and check the preview before anything is saved. The step-by-step guides are here: move from Fuelio and move from Drivvo. Drivvo lists spreadsheet export as a paid feature, so you may need an active plan to create the file.
